Our firm was the prime consultant on the extensive masonry rehabilitation of the hotel with the objective to assess the condition of the façade and roofing elements and identify areas of public safety concern. The investigative screening resulted in a phased agenda of conservation, with the initial phases addressing the most critical areas of concern. Our team provided details to address the structural repairs to stone anchorage system, repair and replacement of stone, flashing replacement, repair and replacement of decorative metal railings. Some of the challenges we were faced with involved the concealing of deterioration of stone anchorage that required innovative measures to sustain the wall envelope without impacting on the heritage fabric. High concentration of lead in the mortar required hazardous material abatement measures. Scheduling around hotel functions, which were identified on a day-to-day basis.
